Antioxidants are a class of nutrients including certain vitamins, minerals, food supplements, enzymes, and hormones that protect the body from free radicals. With every breath we take, molecular by- products known as free radicals are created. Free radicals are highly reactive particles that can cause
oxidative cell damage and weaken the immune system.Environmental and physical stresses such as air pollution, smoking, drinking, strenuous exercise and just plain aging result not only in an increased production of free radicals, but depletion in the bodys supply of natural antioxidants.
Fortunately, it is possible to lower the risk of free radical damage by increasing intake of natural nutrient antioxidants such as vitamins C and E; minerals such as zinc and selenium; food supplements such as ginkgo biloba, grapeseed extract, lycopene and lutein; and enzymes such as co-enzyme Q-10. |
